WWI Trio correctly named 8387 Pte WE Walsh KO Sco Bord
William Edward Walsh was born in Dewsbury in 1868 to George and Ann.
We see William enlisted into the Kings Own Scottish Borderers with the service number 3072 in 1889. Records show him with previous service with the 3rd Bn West Riding Regiment.
He served overseas in India with the 2nd Bn and fought during the Chitral Relief Expedition earning the India General Service Medal with Relief of Chitral clasp (not present)
He was to then head to South Africa with the 1st Bn in 1900 but served with the 3rd Bn and earned his Queens South Africa Medal with Paardeberg, Johannesburg and Cape Colony clasps (not present)
He ended his service upon his return to the UK but re-enlisted until 1906.
In 1911, we find him living with Annie Murray at South Parade, Ossett, Yorkshire. He is working for the National Telephone Company as a wireman.
He enlists again with the Kings Own Scottish Borderers, 3Bn, in December 1914 and heads overseas to France with the 2nd Bn in February 1915 earning his 15 star trio.
He transfers to the Royal Engineers in July 1915 and gets the service number 107366. In February 1918 he joins the 6th Telegraph Construction Company RE.
He returns to the UK and is diagnosed with Tubercular Pleurisy and is in Tranmere Auxiliary Hospital when he succumbs to the illness and dies on the 15th of November 1918.
The lot comprises of his 1915 trio with unused ribbons, they come with their boxes and envelopes. Also is the condolence letter as well as his memorial plaque with cardboard outer case.
