Correctly named 54829 Pte J Atherton MGC

Johns next of kin hailed from Garston, Liverpool.

He served with the 74th Company Machine Gun Corps.

He held the service number 40896 with the 19Bn (Bantams) Royal Welsh Fusiliers as well as the service number 74233 and D/3149 with the Sherwood Foresters, Notts & Derby Regiment.

It was while serving with ‘A’ Company, 10Bn Sherwood Foresters that John was wounded by shrapnel in the right leg, right thigh and left shoulder.

The wound report was dated 8/10/1918. The Battalion were in Martinsart, north of Albert at the time alongside the 7th Lincolnshires.

He served from 10/6/1916 until 8/12/1919 when discharged with the Silver War Badge numbered B347439 (not present)

He is entitled to a Pair.

The medal has a long original silk ribbon.
