Born 25th December 1885 at East Dereham in Norfolk.
A farm boy he enlisted as boy class 2 in Royal navy Christmas day 1903 .
He served hms commonwealth 23rd November 1912 to 22nd August 1917 a pre dreadnought battleship of King Edward vii class .
Hms Lord Nelson 9th September 1917 to 19th July 1919 during which time she served as agean flagship and flagship of black sea Fleet after the ottoman surrender she evacuated the Russian grand dukes Nicholas and Peter from black sea to genoa .
In 1939 he served as a prison officer in Leeds living at 28 Mickley Street, Leeds, Yorkshire where he died ( Leeds ) in 1950 .
