William was born c1875 at Camelford in Cornwall.
A labourer by occupation he joined the Devonshire Regiment in Exeter 8th June 1894 .
After service in India , William went to South Africa for service during the Anglo Boer War being entitled to a qsa with relief of ladysmith, Belmont & tugla heights clasps ( whereabouts of qsa unknown ).
His next of kin was sister grace crapp living at St Neot, Liskeard in Cornwall.
