Correctly named 2 Lieut FH Matthews

Francis Harold Matthews was born in 1893 to Walter and Margaret.

The family in 1911 were living at 36 Overdale Road and Francis is seen to be working as a clerk for a timber merchants.

He married Mabel Grace Fowler in February 1916 and later that year in December, he is gazetted as a Temporary Lieutenant.

Serving with the 266th Company Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), Francis was killed in action on the 24th of July 1917.

At the time of his deat, he was living at 43 Hereward Gardens, Pamers Green, London.

He is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial (Ypres).

He is entitled to a WWI Pair.

The medal has an original long silk ribbon.
