James Pendlebury was born at hulme in Lancashire.
He served in South Africa during the Anglo Boer War being awarded the queen’s south Africa medal with 4 clasps as above .
He reenlisted into the 15th battalion Lancashire Fusiliers and entered France 23rd November 1915 as 10207 pte j Pendlebury Lancashire Fusiliers.
He was sadly killed in action on 1st of July 1916 on the 1st day of the Battle of somme .
He has no known grave and is remembered on the thiepval memorial.
He resided in Salford in Lancashire when he enlisted into ww1 .
