George Archer was born in 1855. He worked for the Inland Revenue for most of his life as a teller then a stamper.

He married Catherine in 1876. He died in 1917.

The London Irish Rifles was originally formed in 1859 during the Victorian Volunteer Movement and named 28th Middlesex (London Irish) Rifle Volunteer Corps. In 1880 it was renumbered the 16th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers.

George Archer was born to George and Catherine in 1890.

In 1911, we find him living with his parents at 40 Wenlock Street, New Road North, Hoxon. He is working as a printer/compositor.

He enlisted in November 1915 into the 4th Depot Royal Artillery aged 25. His address given at that time is 60 Oakley Square, Euston, London.

He married Charlotte Hillyer in 1916.

He went overseas to France in March 1917 with the 113 Battery and would have seen action in 1917 at the Battle of Vimy Ridge, Oppy Wood and Passchendaele.

He was demobbed in January 1919. His medical report showed he suffered from rheumatism.

In 1939, we find George with Charlotte living at Bocastle Road, Tufnell Park, Islington. He is recorded as still working as a printer/compositor.

The QV VLSGC has a nice modern ribbon and the pair have long, original silk ribbons.
