Large bronze successful rescue Royal humane society medal named Thomas portlock 2 July 1857 . with tatty remains of ribbon .

Original copy of Oxford University herald newspaper with article for the brave conduct displayed by Thomas.

A typed up letter of the article by his widow presumably post 1891 in two halves .

Thomas was born c1842 at Offley in Oxfordshire.

He was rescued the local Miller Mr Collins young son from iffley lock in Oxford see pictures for full story .

In 1882 living at 136 cregoe St, Birmingham a clerk in pen factory .

He died c1891 aged circa 49 years old .

He would have been around 15 years old at time of the rescue .

A very nice medal and unusual to have the original newspaper article included.
