Edward Joseph Hall was born Cheltenham in Gloucestershire 5th December 1898 a grocers assistant by occupation he enlisted as a boy sailor class 1 16th February 1915 serving 14 years on destroyers he took part in evacuation of basque children during Spanish civil War on hms boreas.
Pensioned in December 1938 he was recalled and did submarine detection work mainly at hms osprey and was stationed at Bath as the historic city was thought safer than working from the admiralty in London.
He was sadly killed in enemy action 26th April 1942 in an airraid during the ” baedeker raids ” on historic towns and cities .
He is buried at Cheltenham cemetery.
