Correctly named 16754 Pte R Doel Essex R
An enigma this one. His MIC indicates his real surname to be Stapleton.
Born in 1891 we know he entered the Balkan Theatre in June 1915 with the 1st Bn Essex Regiment.
A wound report for him is found dated 5/9/1915.
He was discharged in August 1916 and awarded the Silver War Badge numbered 107406. (not present)
The nature of his wounding was a gunshot taken to his left arm plus he suffered with colic.
May well be an interesting back story with this one.
