Correctly named 624242 Sjt CH Benfield HAC

Charles Hubert Benfield was born to Thomas and Ruth in Monmouth in 1889.

We find him in 1891 living at 3 White Cross Street, Monmouth.

By 1911, we see he has moved to 334/348 Oxford Street, Marylebone in London and is working as a drapery assistant.

He married Laura Grice in 1914.

He was to enlist into the 2nd Bn, A Battery HAC in February 1915 and he achieves the rank of Battery Quarter Master Sergeant that same year.

He was to head to France in June 1917 earning himself a WWI Pair.

After the war, we see in 1935, he is listed in the London Gazette as becoming an assistant collector for the Inland Revenue.

By 1939, he is living at 122 London Road, Runcorn Cheshire and is still working as a tax collector.

Charles died in 1972

The medal has a modern replacement ribbon.
