Correctly named 290644 Pte WG Cranmer Suff R

Walter Charles was born in 1882.

We find him in 1911 living with his wife Ethel at 13 Mersham Road, Thornton Heath. He is working as a typewriter mechanic.

He had married Ethel Margetts in 1908.

He served with the Suffolks from October 1916 until March 1918 when he was discharged due to chronic bronchitis. He was awarded the Silver War Badge numbered 354712 (not present)

He served with the 4th, 11th and 14th Battalions. The 4th and the 11th Bns served in France whereas the 14th was a home service unit.

Walter died in 1938 and his address then was 3 Gilsand Road, Thornton Heath, the same address given when he enlisted in 1916.

The medals have long original silk ribbons
