James Murray Loynd was born to Harrison and Mary in Blackburn in 1890.
He married Annie Pickup in 1911.
We know in 1913, he was living at 157 Meadow Street in Blackburn and emigrated to Boston in the United States.
He served with the 4th Bn Welsh Regiment and also held the service number 97148.
Being entitled to the Pair, he would have served with his Regiment in the Middle eastern Theatre.
From early 1916, they were guarding the Suez Canal, fighting against bands of Arabs who were loyal to the Turks.
They were later to fight in the second and third Battles for Gaza, the Capture of Jerusalem, Operations in the Jordan Valley, and lastly the Battle of Megiddo.
They were returned to Egypt and returned to the UK in 1919.
In 1921, James is seen to be living at 19 New Park Street in Blackburn but is an out of work driver/salesman.
In 1939, he has moved to 15 Heaning Avenue in Blackburn and now is working as a store keeper.
He died in 1978.
