Correctly named J90986 W Ormerod Ord RN

William was born in Blackburn in July 1900.

He enlisted into the Royal Navy in mid 1918.

He served aboard HMS Danae which was attached to the Harwich-based 5th Light Cruiser Squadron, she took part in several North Sea patrols during the last months of World War I. Between October and November of the following year, she passed to the Baltic Sea, where she supported the Whites in the Russian Civil War, along with her sister ships Dragon and Dauntless.

William was demobbed in January 1920.

William married Henrietta Newhouse in 1925.

In 1939, we see him living with Henrietta at 165 Stanley St, Accrington, Lancs and working as a lorry driver. William also served as an ambulance driver for the ARP during WWII so most likely entitled to the Defence medal.
