It wasn’t long before Arthur saw action as the 1st Bn were involved in the Battle of Pozieres from the 23rd of July.

A wound report shows Arthur to be wounded by gunshot to the ankle with further wounds to his face and left arm.

On the 24th of July, the 1st Bn Gloucester’s were to relieve the 2nd Bn Royal Sussex Regiment.

The Battle of Pozieres was an allied victory which ended September the 3rd 1916.
