Born in 1881, Arthur served with the Army Service Corps during WWI earning a Pair.

We see Arthur in 1921 living with his wife Alice and son, Arthur Leonard at 12 Church Street, New Lenton, Nottingham. It is noted he is employed as a ladies blouse and role cutter.

During WWII, he served as a Fire Warden in Nottingham and was working at EO Smith & Co Gown Manufacturers when a fire broke out at their premises at the corner of Stanford Street and Castle Gate on Friday 14th of May 1941. The Nottingham Fire Service were called at 2:40 am to attend and the fire and over 50 firefighters were there and it took over 3 hours to control the fire.

The local coroner later suggested the fire originated in the room the Fire Wardens slept in and based his opinion from the way the fire had travelled.

Arthur was taken to hospital with sever burns but died on the 18th of May 1943 from his injuries.

He is remembered by the Nottinghamshire Firefighters Memorial and is remembered on CWGC as Civilian War Dead.
