Correctly named 7/542 Tpr AJ Bull NZEF

Born in 1885 in Bungay, Norwich, to Lewis and Frances, Arthur moved to New Zealand in 1908.

He volunteered for the army and New Zealand army records have him born in 1891.

Arthur was an original member of the Canterbury Mounted Rifles which was raised in August 1914. 10th (Nelson) Squadron Canterbury Mounted Rifles NZEF

It was composed mainly of men from the Canterbury military district of the South Island.

The regiment number just 549 men of all ranks.

They set sail for Egypt in October 1914.

On the 7th of May 1915, 26 officers and 482 men of the regiment departed for Gallipoli and landed at ANZAC Cove on May 12th.

Records state Arthur was killed on August the 6th or 7th but we can infer it was during the attack on August the 6th.

He is remembered upon the Chunuk Bair (New Zealand) Memorial

The medal comes with some paper research.

The medal does retain an original silk ribbon.
