Correctly named 36933 Pte R Hesketh MGC

Born in 1891 to Thomas and Ann, Richard was a cotton spinner pre war and living with his family at 1 Coniston Road in Bolton.

He had a younger brother, Roger, who was killed in 1915 serving with the Loyal North Lancasters.

Richard was serving with the 27th Company Machine Gun Corps when he was killed in action on the 11th of October 1917.

He has no known grave and is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial.

The 27th Company of the Machine Gun Corps was formed on December 23, 1915, from the Machine Gun Sections of the Royal Scots Fusiliers. It was part of the 9th Division and participated in several significant battles during World War I, including the Battle of Albert, the Battle of Bazentin Ridge, and the First Battle of the Scarpe. The company was amalgamated with other Machine Gun Companies on March 1, 1918, to form No. 9 Battalion, Machine Gun Corps.
