Correctly named 8-16388 Pte AJ Gough S Wales Bord

Albert John was born to Thomas and Jane in Cardiff 1894.
In 1911, we find him living a 1 Beatrice Road, Cadoxton, Barry and working as a dock labourer.
He volunteers for service in September 1914 and serves with the 8th BN South Wales Borderers and heads over to France in September 1915.
The following October, the 8th were shipped to Salonica for the next two and a half years.
Albert did suffer a bout of Malaria and was later discharged from service and was Class Z in March 1919.
He served 4 tears and 53 days with the South Wales Borderers until his last 131 days when he was transferred to the 7th Bn Wiltshire Regiment and given a new service number 30157.
He married Jane Davies in 1920 and had his first son, Edmund in 1921.
In 1939, we see him as a widower and working as a nightwatchman in a flour mill where his son Edmund is also a cleaner.
Albert died in 1964.
Alberts son Edmund was a casualty in WWII and we have his medals for sale as a separate lot.
