Queens south Africa medal with orange free state and transvaal clasps. named 5856 pte f miles rl wt Surrey regt ( slight slack in suspender ).
Kings south Africa medal with south Africa 1901 and 1902 clasps named 5856 pte f miles the Queens. ( some slackness to swivel suspender ).
Both medals have light ek naming unaffected.
Frederick miles was horn c1880 at great Bookham near Dorking in Surrey.
A carter by occupation he enlisted aged 18nin November 1898 .
He is noted in 1904 as serving in b company 1st Battalion Queens Royal West Surrey Reg.
His father Henry lived at this time at Venus cottages , Venus Road, gt Bookham.
After service in south Africa during the war he was stationed in India.
He joined reserves in 1907 and was discharged in November 1910 .
1911 a farm labourer living at thatchers hotch, ranmore, great Bookham.
He rejoined for ww1 serving as 240594 I Royal garrison artillery,
34077 Norfolk regt & 429 company Labour as 40594 .
Living at 3 beckley cottages , great Bookham.
More research needed but a nice pair to a desirable unit.
