Correctly named BWM 5994 Pte AE Bull Som LI
Born in Little Britain, Dorchester in 1877 to Arthur and Sarah, Arthur Edwin Bull enlisted to the colours in 1901.
In 1901, we him find at barracks in Dorchester and in 1911 he is found at Royal Horse Artillery Barracks, Dorchester, with the 1st Bn Somerset Light Infantry.
He was sent overseas to France on the 21st of August 1914 and the Somersets caught the end of the Battle of Le Cateau. They saw fighting then at the Retreat from Mons, The Battle of the Marne, Aisne and Messines all by early 1915.
Arthur was discharged from service in March 1915 due to varicose veins.
He was awarded the Silver War Badge numbered 191437 (not present)He married Blodwen Simmonds in 1919 and in 1921 we find him at Tump Cottages in Cwmffrwdoer near Pontypool. He is now working as a painter/decorator.
He is still found there in 1939.
He died in 1943.
Sadly the Victory Medal is missing from his Trio but hope remains that it is out there.
The Mons Star has a contemporary slider style date clasp.
Both medals have original silk ribbons.
