Born in January 1877, Peter enlisted into the 56th Field Artillery in 1895, he was already serving in the 1st Forfar Voluntary Artillery/ 3 Royal Highlanders Militia.

Records state he served in India from December 1896 until March 1905 although the rolls escape us and are unsure if he was entitled to an award.

He married Esther Cropp in 1908.

He was promoted to Corporal in 1908, Sergeant in 1910 and Battery Sergeant Major in 1915.

His LSGC was awarded in 1913.

By 1912, he was a permanent staff member with the 2nd Highland Brigade RFA.

He was to serve later in France and arrived in May 1915.

His MID is confirmed on his MIC.

He was promoted 2nd Lieutenant in march 1916 then Temporary Captain in May 1919 and later Captain in October 1920.

He retired in November 1920 but was recalled as a Captain for the Black Friday coal strikes in 1921.

Black Friday, in British labour history, refers to 15 April 1921, when the leaders of transport and rail unions announced a decision not to call for strike action in support of the miners. The epithet ‘black’ derives from a widespread feeling amongst labour radicals that the decision amounted to a breach of solidarity and a betrayal of the miners.

Black Friday caused the 1921 United Kingdom census, which had been planned for 24 April, to be pushed back to June.

Later in life, he was one of the Presidents of the Haig Memorial Club and he became the local Baillie (magistrate) in Scoonie, a parish in Fife.

An address found for him is noted as Gladstone Street, Leven, Fife.

He died in 1947.

All medals have original silk ribbons.

Group comes with a folder of research.
