Reginald James best was born 6th July 1900 at worthing in Sussex.

A van driver by occupation he enlisted in July 1918.

He served onboard hms speedy 22nd February 1919 to 16th June 1920 .

He was paid a £20 war gratuity bonus for his service with hms speedy.

Hms speedy served in black sea and took part in Russian Civil War providing gunfire support for the attack on mariupol and the evacuation of the High commission for South Russia.
