He is noted as wounded 7th September 1915 as part of the Mediterranean expeditionary force whist serving in East lancashire divisional signals company .

12th November 1917 His award of the Military Medal for bravery in the field was published in the London Gazette.

24th November 1917 He was onboard the hospital ship Princess Elizabeth ( Blackpool). with a contused right ankle whist serving with 42nd signal coy Royal engineers.
