One thing to note is sometimes in his records, his numbered is mis-written as 1238.

Born in January 1895 to Arthur and Margaret in Manchester, Arthur is recorded in 1911 as living at 10 Brass Street, Manchester and working as a dispatch clerk.

He is noted to have been in service from October 1913.

He served with the 21st East Lancashire Royal Field Artillery and went overseas to Egypt with them in October 1914 earning his 1915 Star Trio.

In March 1916, he suffered a fractured pelvis whilst at Fort Tewfik whilst serving with the 17th Battery 1/2 East Lancashire Brigade.

In October 1916, he was awarded 14 days Field Punishment No2 for misconduct and disrespectful language.

He served in Egypt until February 1917 when he was shipped to France.

In April 1918, wound reports tell us that he suffered gunshot wounds to both arms plus a shell wounding to his right eye.

He was discharged from service due to injuries and awarded the Silver War Badge numbered B30956 (not present).  His discharge date is given as 25/10/1918.

His address on discharge is noted as 10 Richard Street, Queens Road, Manchester.

He married Carrie Stacey in 1924 and we see them in 1939 living at 100 Harley Road, Sale, Cheshire and again he is working as a dispatch clerk.

Arthur died in 1963.

All the medals have very long original silk ribbons.
