Correctly named 20038 Pte T Graham Shrops LI

Thomas was born in Oldham, Lancashire in 1887.

He was living in 1911 with his father, a widower and his wife and family at 160 Moorhey St, Oldham.

He was at that time working in a cotton mill as a piecer.

He had married Sarah Jane Thomas back in 1906.

He first tried to enlist into the Royal Army Medical Corps but instead enlisted with the 5th Bn Kings Shropshire Light Infantry and went overseas to France with them on the 3rd of August 1915.

We see a wound report dated 3/10/1916 with no details of the woundings but other records state he was shot in the left leg with wounds (presumably shrapnel) to the left ear and both feet.

He served later as 435833 with the 6th Company, East Commend Labour Corps.

He also has a service number with the Kings Own Royal Lancaster Regiment, 266190.

We see he eventually had a toe removed. His discharge was due to the amputation as well as deafness.

Thomas died in 1932 leaving behind his wife and 3 sons. He is buried at Greenacres Cemetery, Oldham.

All medals have long original silk ribbons.
