Leonard Fitzgeorge Button was born to George and Agness in June 1891.

We find him in 1911 working as a butcher and living at 43 High Steet, Hythe, Kent.

He enlisted into the 1/1 West Kent Yeomanry and served in the Egyptian Theatre from 1916, serving there until April 1918.

The brigade units were reorganized in January and February 1917. As a result, the 1/1st Queen’s Own West Kent Yeomanry was amalgamated with 1/1st Royal East Kent Yeomanry at Sollum on 1 February 1917 and redesignated 10th (Royal East Kent and West Kent Yeomanry) Battalion, Buffs (East Kent Regiment)

He was to serve with the 10th Bn East Kents (the Buffs) with a new service number 270850.

He later served in France from May 1918 until September of the same year.

He married Kathleen Loisa Hopper in 1920.

We find in 1939, he is now a master butcher living at 7 London Road, Gillingham, Kent.

He died in 1957.
The medal has an original silk ribbon.
