WWI Memorial Scroll dedicated to 24637 Lance Corporal Joseph |Ernest Butler of the 1st Bn Cheshire Regiment who died from his wounds on September 4th, 1918.
Born in 1891 to William and Eliza in Wybunbury, Cheshire.
He married Janet Butler in 1912.
He went overseas to the Balkan/Gallipoli theatre and landed in October 1915 earning himself a 1915 Trio.
From the 1st of |September 1918, the 1st Battalion were in the trenches at Favreuil.
He is buried at Euston Road Cemetery, Colincamps, Somme.
The dispatch tube, we don,t think is his but it is original and although hardly legible, we can read Newcastle on the label.
The lot also comes with a Buckingham Palace condolence letter.
