Correctly named 25634 Pte J Richardson S Wales Bord

John was born in July 1896 at Hoyland Common, Barnsley.

He entered service with the 19th Battalion South Wales Borderers when he was 20.He was working as a miner at the time.

He was soon transferred to the 3rd (Reserve) Battalion then with the 4th (Service) Battalion.

We find a wound report for him dated 8/6/1916 and further research tells us he suffered a bomb wounding to his left hand thus rendering no longer physically fit for service and he was discharged in September 1916. He is entitled to a Silver War Badge (not present) numbered 23748.

We find at the time of enlistment his address was 20 Clifton Street, Denaby Main, Rotherham.

In 1921, we see he has married Annie (either Shakeshaft or Goulding) and is living now at 55 Firbeck Street, Denaby Main, Rotherham and he is working as a coliery labourer for Denaby and Cadeby Colliery Company.

In 1939, he is still at the same address and working as a Colliery Dataller, day worker.

He is entitled to the Pair.
