Correctly named Pair 19386 Pte1 H Peppercorn RAF

Herbert was born to Augustus and Sarah in Islington in 1893.

We find the family in 1911 living at 30 Colebrook Row in Islington and records tell us that Augustus was an artificial florist and Herbert was his assistant.

His RAF record states he joined the Royal Flying Corps from the Army in January 1916 and progressed into the Royal Air Force upon its formation.

He is serving with 11 Balloon Company. His record states that he is still living at the same address but is now a garage proprietor and motor mechanic as well as a motorcyclist which is in part of his trade in his service.

He was sent overseas to France in July 1916 and remained there until January 1919.

He married Victoria Emily Knowles in late 1926.

In 1939, we find Victoria living at 157 Bulstrode Avenue in Hounslow but Herbert is not registered there. Herbert it seemed has re-enlisted for service in WWII.

A telegram dated September 1941 which is included with the lot confirms this address and his discharge.

The WWI Pair and sole WWII Medal is his full entitlement.

Herbert died in June 1966. His address at that time is noted as 16 Heathwood Road, Wemouth, Dorset.
