Arthur Edward George Mears was born in 1893 to John and Eliza.

Records tell us hailed from the Weymouth area and in 1911 was living at ‘Alverstone’ Kings Road, Radipole, Weymouth. He was working as a general labourer at this time.

He enlisted into the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in November 1915 when they were based in Portland. He served with both the 2nd & 14th Bns.

Records show he received a gunshot to his left leg.

He was awarded the Silver War Badge numbered 278196, not with his medals. And he is entitled to a British War Medal.

He was discharged from service due to wounds in November 1917.

He married Elsie May Lemon in 1925.

In 1939, we find him living at 2 Kings Road in Weymouth.

He died in 1972.
