Correctly named 38073 Pte T Walkinshaw R Scots

Thomas Davidson Walkingshaw was born in 1886 to David and Georgina in Stobhill, Lothian.

We find the family in 1901 living at Jubilee Row, Newbattle in Midlothian with Thomas working as an apprentice grocer.

He married Alison Waddel Johnston in 1909.

He served with the 2nd Battalion Royal Scots and is entitled to a WWI Pair.

Some records tell us he was captured at Monchy, Le Preux on the 16th of June 1917.

At this time, the 2nd Battalion were in the Orchard and East Trenches there and were subject to heavy German artillery which blew in both trenches with the loss of one officer and 15 killed and 45 wounded.

Checking out the POW records, we find he was captured on the 14th of April 1917.

At this time, at the start of the Battle of Arras, the 2nd Battalion were ordered to capture the high ground south of Wancourt Tower. This resulted with 43 men recorded as missing.

His address at this time is noted as 7 Viewforth, Bruntsfield, Edinburgh.

Thomas died in 1935 and is buried at Corstorphine Hill Cemetery in Edinburgh.

The medal has an original silk ribbon.
