John William is entitled to a 1915 Trio having landed at Cape Helles on the 25th of April 1915 from the SS Clyde.

He served with the 1st Battalion which due to the amount of casualties they had were merged with the 1st Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers to create ‘the Dubsters’.
The ‘Dubsters’ were a composite unit formed during the First World War when the Royal Munster Fusiliers and the 1st Royal Dublin Fusiliers suffered heavy casualties. This unit was created to maintain the fighting strength of the regiments and was known for its bravery and resilience. The ‘Dubsters’ were part of the 86th Brigade, 29th Division, and played a significant role in the Gallipoli campaign.

We find a wound report for him dated 4/6/1915.
He was discharged with the award of the Silver War Badge numbered 28553 (not present)
