Correctly named 443651 Pte RL Callan 54 Can Inf

Born in Lyne, Peebleshire, Scotland to William and Margaret.

Robert Lauriston Callan’s parents address is noted as Eshiels Cottage, Peebles, Scotland.

Robert served with the 54th Canadian Infantry and it is known from records that he was involved in a raid on the German trenches on the 17th September 1916 whilst serving on the Somme.

The lot comes partly researched with a photo of Robert. We were lucky enough to find a few more pictures online.

He was previously reported missing with search parties scouring no mans land for him and other comrades.

His party took part on a raid at St Eloi and after which he never returned.

He has no known grave and is remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial.

He had held the rank of Lance Corporal but relinquished his rank but his commanding officer notes
he was next for promotion.
