Herbert Hector Cranmer was born at south shields , Northumberland 25th June 1900 .
1901 ,iving at 27 Boughton Rd, south shields .
22nd August 1910 Herbert and his brother were admitted to the strand boys school in Grimsby.
He joined the Royal Navy 16th July 1918 .
He was onboard hms Shakespeare when she was involved in trying to prevent the surrendered German high seas Fleet from scuttling at Scapa flow and also serving as part of the intervention in the Russian Civil War serving off Estonia in the baltic .
He later joined the Royal Fleet Reserve.
In August 1927 his brother Leonard died at home of a knife wound to his chest, evidence was given at the inquest by famous pathologist Sir Bernard spillsbury. Herbert caused a sensation by refusing to give evidence .
He married Agnes Mary hunt at Grimsby in 1928 having 3 children .
Awarded his lsgc 15th Sept 1933.
His wife and 2 of their children were living at 34 lawson Ave in Grimsby in 1939.
Herbert served at various shore bases training men allocated to dems.
Released class a 14th September 1945
He died 22nd November 1970 .
